Session Summary
Participants will learn how to support their students using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills that focus on increasing distress tolerance, mindful awareness and focus, and effective interpersonal skills. This session aims to provide school professionals with an overview of the DBT approach and practical skills that can be readily shared with their students.

Learning Outcome(s)

  1. Participants will have basic knowledge of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) assumptions for treatment
  2. Participants will learn the content of four skills training modules of DBT: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, and Interpersonal Effectiveness as it relates to school stress and relationships
  3. Participants will learn at least three specific DBT skills they can teach their students to navigate difficult emotions and interpersonal stressors.

For educators, promoting self-care can encourage practices that prevent burnout, boost productivity, and add to a positive school culture. In this session you will learn fun and practical ways you can promote self-care to your school community.
